Discipline and Wrath

Disobeying the Lord can cost you your life. Be careful what you do. Do not forsake the Lord. When you ask for forgiveness you must be sincere and repent. Without repenting you may find yourself taking advantage of the Lord. He will certainly discipline you. Do not be stubborn either or he may hand you over to the desires of your heart and you will become confused and your mind calloused. You will come to ruin until you turn and repent. But remember that it is written that the Lord disciplines the ones he loves (revelation 3:19). Many of these verses are very forward so there is no need to deeply explain, or "paint a picture" so to speak, to understand them. So please forgive me if you find a lack of incite concerning this topic.

Deuteronomy 28:15

15However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.

Deuteronomy 28:20

20The Lord will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him.

Deuteronomy 28:28-29

28The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind. 29At midday you will grope about like a blind man in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you.

Deuteronomy 28:45

45All these curses will come upon you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you.

Deuteronomy 28:48

48.……He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you.

1 Chronicles 10:13-14

13Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, 14and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

(God made Saul the first king over Israel, even though He did not want to put a king over them. Saul turned from the Lord and the Lord punished him justly, making an example out of him.)

Psalm 73:27

27Those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.

Psalm 89:30-33

30“If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, 31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; 33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.”

(Even though we are punished for doing wrong, God still loves us. As a parent, do you not punish your child when they do wrong? Yet, you still love them. It is a characteristic attribute that we have received from God.)

Psalm 94:8-15

8 Take heed, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? 9 Does he who implanted the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? 10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches man lack knowledge? 11 The Lord knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile. 12 Blessed is the man you discipline, O Lord, the man you teach from your law; 13 you grant him relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked. 14 For the Lord will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance. 15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it.

Psalm 99:8

8 O Lord our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds. (Even though we are forgiven, we must be punished because God is perfectly just. Just as we punish our children to discipline them, so God does to us. In revelation 3:19 it is written “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.” )

Psalm 141:5

5 Let a righteous man strike me-it is a kindness; let him rebuke me-it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it. Yet my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers;

(Correct, rebuke, and encourage your brothers and sisters. It is written teach a wise man and he will be wiser still. If you see your bother or sister do something wrong and they do not understand what they did then tell them. This can only help them, as long as you do not become judgmental towards them. We are here to help each other not judge each other.)

Proverbs 15:10

1 Stern discipline awaits him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die.

Proverbs 15:32

32 He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.

Isaiah 42:24-25

24 Who handed Jacob over to become loot, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the Lord, against whom we have sinned? For they would not follow his ways; they did not obey his law. 25 So he poured out on them his burning anger, the violence of war. It enveloped them in flames, yet they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart.

Isaiah 47:10-11

10 You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me.’ 11 Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.

Zechariah 7:13

13 “ ‘When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty.”

(Be careful to obey the Lord. The Lord may turn his face from you as a form of punishment. It will feel as if he is not listening and as if he is not even there. Stand strong and repent and he will reveal his face to you again.)

Luke 6:24-26

24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. 25 Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

(Those who live to gain everything in this life will have nothing in the next. Jesus said, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but in the end lose his own soul?”)

1 Corinthian 5:1-5

1 It is actually reported that their is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife. 2 And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this? 3 Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present. 4 When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, 5 hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord.

(Being handed over to Satan would exclude this man from the church’s fellowship. He would be handed over to the desires of his heart, he would be exposed, and left alone in Satan’s clutches until he repented and came to his senses.)

1 Corinthians 11:32

32 When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

(We as children of God are judged and punished in our lifetime because we will not share in the eternal punishment of the wicked. Our time of judgment is now. Everyday we are being judged, and disciplined. In the end we will be saved from judgment, and judgment will only be in store for the wicked, the unbelievers, and the hypocrites.)

Ephesians 5:3-7

3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immortality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person-such a man is an idolater-has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.

Hebrews 12:4-11

4 in your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons:

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,

and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,

6 because the Lord disciplines those he loves,

and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.”

7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should be submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
